Yes, let’s have a sanitized safe-space approved MCM.

Kerry > ***I never said or implied any such thing etc, etc...

Kerry, who say you did ???
To be honest, a thread where people give answer without reading what have been said is of no interest for me.
      Have fun...

        Hi Keith!
Well, we'll never get one of those, but I do hope we'll get something back that won't further draw down on the membership. It's a hard choice Adam has to make, with members having strong opinions on both sides - i.e., the argument pairs I posted earlier.

As I mentioned, let's see how the compromise I suggested works out.

            Carlo,

I have left this topic alone as Michael does not have access but for your original comment, it takes a lifetime of practice to be an "Old Fart". Given enough years you will get there too but you have to work hard at it to be good at it.

Over the years he has been a tremendous asset as well as tremendous pain in the tokus.

I think the good has outweighed the bad, but I just wish he could see the harm in his posts. The negativity does NO ONE any good, especially himself.

For the most part" us egghead programmers tend to score a big "I" in Meyers-Briggs personality tests so I tend to give us a big leeway.

I sometime fail, but do my best to be respectful to others.
I see no fun in hurting people.
The problem with that stance is that some ... erhm ... "very entitled" users crept into this forum. The community didn't let that happen back in the days.

                - Asking is fine
                - Asking "stupid" is fine
                - Asking "stupid", ignoring/dismissing any well-intentioned advice, even going "wahwahwah, I know it better, although I had to ask this ..." over and over again, is IMHO not acceptable.

When you say "stupid decision by stupid people" you sadly say that Adam is stupid
and you say it also to me, because I fully support Adam's decision.
Insult are against forum's rules. But I guess you already knew this.
The problem I personally always have with that kind of reasoning is that I find it highly offensive if someone else dares to judge what I may or may not find "insulting". I'm insulted by a lot of things (e.g. stupidity) , but swear words isn't one of it. I even laugh at those.

Remember folks: being "nice" and tolerating the stupid is what led to #brexit and Trump. If you think that's a positive development, keep being "polite". I personally long for a time again, where science, facts and knowledge are amongst the most precious virtues again. We had that once. And that age was called Enlightment for a reason, not Insultment ...

Is there a “foe list” facility in this forum that would allow a member to hide posts of another member they do not want to see or have a problem with? Haven’t thought this through and suspect problems and unintended consequences.

No, that is not what he said. If you want to "visit" MCM you'll have do it where he is. You are welcome to stay here as well.

I have never been into character assassination nor will I ever be and much of what I have seen of various people's comments on Michael amount to little better than collective cat scratching by a collective of wilting daisies trying to gang up on a member who has contributed more than the sum total of the wilting daisies. I think I am still above the average age of members here at 70 but probably not by much. It took a while but I got the swing or the humour and repartee that Michael uses and I saw it as that.

I have probably argued with Michael more than most but it was because he had something to say based off his extensive experience and while we agreed on very little, there was never a lack of respect for his years of contributions to other members.

Running a forum is by no means an easy task, Bob did it well, in the interim Eric and Gary did their best to hold the place together and Adam has made the place orderly again by setting out sensible rules and enforcing them. I would personally like to see Michael able to contribute again but I don't intend to try and double guess why Adam has made his decision.

If it were ever possible, what would make it work would be Micheal fine tuning his humour/repartee so that other infallible members (like all of us) got the humour involved and for the wilting daisies, develop a sense of humour and spare the rest of us from the silent sobbing in a corner after each cat scratching session. Being "Po-litty-cally-correct" is no substitute for being a human being with a sense of humour.

I do not know what the forum software is capable of, but I would feel that there is always room for redemption of our actions.
Suspension for any forum member you would think would be enough punishment no matter how many times it is applied or time periods of suspension.
This is not a democracy run web site and probably good it is not and never was.
I full respect with the ethics of the owners and others in the past who have been administrators. I know things can be a testing at times.

I read that MCM was banned from the forum.
His comments did, on balance, trash a lot threads and would potentially disuade new customers.
Having said that, MCM, effectively taught me to program, when I hadn’t got a clue (ok I still don’t) and
his good stuff is very, very good. It’s absence is undoubtedly a loss to forum members.
I have no wish to perpetuate MCM’s negative impact, from an “attract new customers” perspective, but
I believe I have a solution to separate the good from the bad.
Why can’t MCM have restricted access to his own, members-only corner.
Here, he could provide responses, searchable via entering the relevant thread’s url.
His years of contribution warrant that IMHO.
PB might be a "secret weapon" but so is MCM, when he wants to be.
