  • Project Centennial what is it ?

This forum is about Microsofts Project Centennial

    What is it ?

Project Centennial is one of the so called "Bridges" Microsoft is working (the others deal with IOS and Android, which was dropped). This bridge is for making install programs so a WIN32 app, like we do with PowerBasic, can be installed via the Microsoft Windows Store. Just like Metro (Windows Store) apps download and easily are installed and later uninstalled, Project Centennial is a way tp "package" WIN32 apps so they can do exactly the same thing.

If you would like to sign up for a preview when it is available you can do so here: https://devpreviewsignup.windows.com/

Project Centennial is not ready yet, but should be available some time later this year.

This forum is where I will update info about this project, as I get it and later test it, to benefit PB users who would like to use this new technology when it is ready.

Build 2016 keynote address comments on Project Centennial calling it an App Converter. If reads your install app (ie. msi, EXE, etc) and then runs it through a converter utility and then generates a Windows Store installer, ready to be uploaded to the Windows Store (now you can sell your apps on the Windows Store). Yes, real WIN32 apps in the Windows Store.

Even more they said you will be able to access new API's in your WIN32 apps, including things like Live Tiles APIs.

Will report more when I learn it.

Project Centennial is here (sort of):

You can download is now here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=51691

with one problem though. You must install it on Windows 10 (latest Redstone beta version) and it must be the Enterprise version. So IMO, not ready for primetime yet.

I think it should work now. But I have not yet managed to convert PB programs.
Has anyone already experiences with the Desktop App Converter?

I believe that PB programs in principle works. I am ashamed that I can not do it.
I see always only videos where C # programs are converted. What do I need to do to convert a hellopb.exe file?

The app converter you used, did you download it from Microsofts web site or was it available via the Windows Store ?

                        All,
Apparently from the online comments on May 2017 the converter usage is locked down to just Pro and Enterprise OS versions.
