  • Console Screen Tail?

Due to circumstances, I had to reload xp/home. Downloaded & installed all updates, security patches (all 110 or so of them) and everything seems to be working again, except.....

When I bring up a CC program that has, for example, CONSOLE SCREEN 31,80, the new O/S load presents a screen ?tail? (for lack of a better word) that extends all the way down to the bottom of the screen while the upper left of the console program is in the upper left of the screen.

This tail wasn't there on the old O/S load, or maybe I just didn't notice it.

It only lasts for a split second before it shrinks back down to the expected size but it's very distracting and annoying.

Anybody know what's going on and how to fix it?

Sounds like a maximized console window to me. This should do it...

    Start > Programs > Accessories >

    RIGHT-click on Command Prompt

    Select Properties

On the Shortcut tab, select "Run in Normal Window", then OK.

If that's not it, try changing the Row count on the Layout tab to a smaller value (the default is 300).

Just on whim, I did a search:

word 'tail', message subject, all dates, forum source code.

      Zip. Squat. Nada.

Hard to believe no one has done a "pbtail" command-line utility.

Might be a good project for a newbie looking for one.

Why stick newbies with something like that?

It looks more like a good project for someone that has the time to go looking for projects for others.

We newbies, and I include myself in that term because even though I've been around since Turbo, have enough on our plate.

Besides, I think you're in the wrong forums if you're looking for 'tail'.:saythat:

From time to time we get "newbies" asking for "project ideas" to help them learn.

So if that new project is something useful, doesn't everybody win?

Merely being a tad facetious. I have no objection to winners all around.
