A fix for the Q815411 Win XP SP1 problem can be downloaded from http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ahrk_2k...P2_x86_ENU.exe

Since the fix is easily uninstalled via Add/Remove applet, I
suppose you could try it after taking the extra precaution of
creating an XP Pro System Restore Point.

However, there is virtually no chance that the Q815411 issue,
as documented by MS, is related to your client's problem.

Client's XP Pro Laptop is probably one of the several chipsets
that experience problems when Standby or Hibernation is enabled.
The problem is subtle because it gets noticed only on systems
that run NTVDM apps such as your PB/DOS app. This is almost
surely the case if client can temporarily clear the symptoms by
restarting Windows. If so, symptoms will reappear after system
emerges from Standby or Hibernation and the user runs a true
    DOS app via NTVDM.

If disabling Standby and Hibernation fix the problem, options
<Turn off monitor> and <Turn off hard disks> may used to give
laptop a limited degree of power management.

Another possible source of similar symptoms are complex sceen
savers that allow users to build multimedia slideshows from a
variety of a/v file types. Unlikely issue for laptop, however.

    Hi,

Sorry the notebook cam with Sp1 pre-installed so the client is unwilling to uninstall it.

Ok, so does removing it solve the problem? (assuming SP1 can be uninstalled).

One item I used to check speed of a PB program vrs other languages runs faster on my
XP Pro SP1 then before the SP1 was applied. Must be only
certain programs or mostly Home that this affects.

Is this in windowed or full-screen mode? What is the resolution? (ie, 80x25, 80x43, 80x50 or is the app using graphics, etc?)

Also, is it XP Home or XP Professional?

Guest started a topic XP Running slow

    XP Running slow

We support an old Powerbasic v2.0 application. One of our clients is running the application on an Iridium Starbook 510 1.3gHz Celeron with 256 my Ram under XP.

The system loads versy slowly and switching from screen to screen is also very slow. We can not simulate this on our notebooks running XP with similar memory. Has anyone experienced anything like this and what was the resoloution?

    Thanks in advance

    Gerard
