  • XP's command prompt?

Forgive me if this has been addressed- I got a new machine
yesterday with an XP Pro operating system. I thought
Powerbasic would work in XP under its Command Prompt box?

It seems to, but when I use arrow-up or arrow-down keys, it
highlights text; whereas on my ME machine, the arrow-up and
arrow-down keys simply move the cursor.

Is there something I am overlooking please?

    Thank you.

    Robert

Nothing comes to mind, but it might pay to check the Properties of the shortcut you are using to start the IDE, and/or the properties of PB.EXE in case there is an unexpected setting that was copied across from your other machine.

The Windows 2000 and XP consoles default to the "Quick Edit" mode. Right-click the console title bar, select Properties, find Quick Edit, turn it off, and save the setting.

[LATER] Oops, I should know better than to respond before my morning caffeine takes effect. Sorry, the Quick Edit mode affects the mouse, not the arrow keys. Ignore this post.

Eric's "Quick Edit" comment does raise a further mention though...

For those wishing to change the default "Quick Edit" setting to OFF in Windows 2000 and Windows XP, you only need to run my little "NoDefaultQuickEdit" utility once on a PC and the default setting will be immediately changed. NoDefaultQuickEdit.zip is available from http://www.powerbasic.com/files/pub/tools/win32/

Note that the web page there says the NoDefaultQuickEdit.zip file is 1.7Mb in size, but it's actually less than 10kb! I'll ask the webmaster to fix the description during the next maintenance cycle.

          Lance-

I am not used to this speed demon- I don't think even a full
second elasped during the download- it is small!

Thank you, and now I will go try it.
