How to use mouse cursor?

I have noticed that when I try to use use a DOS program under WINXP/HE,
such as PBDOS or EDIT, that the mouse cursor remains as an arrow,
rather than the block cursor under old dos systems. Therefore,
I have to use keyboard commands to make things work.

How can I revert to a dos cursor?

I don't have an answer to your question but in my experience,
an arrow cursor works just as well as a block cursor. Why not
just use that?

Take PBDOS for example. If I do Alt-F it drops down the File menu. Then Q
exits the program. If I point and click to File, nothing happens. If I
double-click on File, then File is highlighted, but it doesn't drop down.
Is this some sort of XP thing?

Many DOS apps don't respond well to windowed mode and mouse support.
Using the app in full screen gives working mouse support. For me at least,
that works fine. Also, make sure you create a real DOS shortcut, don't
start a DOS app from a win xp command prompt, but start from a 'real'
dos command line using command.com (also in win xp to facilitate DOS
emulation).
