  • Install Problem under W95

    Hi there,
yesterday I received PBDOS 3.50 and I've tried to install it.
First in a DOS-Box, then shutdown Windows and start it with the prompt only, the results are the same:
After the "I Agree"-screen and the Path-Confirmation the installation stopped with the message:
Unable to locate PB35.PBZ archive file!
    Aborting installation.
Only a boot with a DOS 6.22 will help, but this should not be ok, or what ?

Try and copy the files off the install disk to a directory on the hard drive and install it from the hard drive rather than the floppy. You can also run a scan disk on your install disk to see if there are errors on it.
    Hope this helps,
    Noble

It certainly sounds like the disk is faulty. Call PowerBASIC Sales and ask if they can send you out a replacement disk(s).

Offhand, I don't know if the DOS installer is looking for PB35.PBZ in the same path as the installer itself is found. That is, it may be looking for PB35.PBZ in the current directory. This would be a problem if you're not running the installer from the A: drive, or wherever it's located. In other words, you don't want a situation like:

        C:\>A:INSTALL

Make sure you're actually at the installation disk before installing:

        A:\>INSTALL

          Thanks a lot Folks,
I've tried all it before I wrote 1st,
but the problem is still persist. I've made the same experience with versions of WIN 95 up to OSR 2.5 and WIN 98 SE, the results are alle the same !
Under W2K there is no problem (!), also under DOS 6.22 and/or WIN 3.1.
It seems to like a national or localized problem.
But so I've installed the PBD 3.5 anyway around any corners .
