  • Does Windows XP really signal the end of DOS and PB-3.5?

    Greetings,

Haven't posted here in quite some time. Glad to see that PowerBasic
is still very much with us.

So, Bill Gates plans to shake up the PC world again.

If Windows-XP is not going to have a DOS interface, what then becomes
of PB-DOS 3.5 and the programs compiled by it?

The final feature set of WinXP is not complete (supposed to be shipping Q2 or probably even later), so it is really a bit premature to start guessing...

That said, it is possible it could work like NT and Win2000 which provide NTVDM (NT Virtual DOS Machine emulator) to run such apps, so the lack of a a DOS subsystem may not be much of an issue... who knows!

One thing that is certain... PB/CC and PB/DLL applications have been reported to work perfectly. I've heard no other feedback.
