  • PowerBasic DOS Launcher

PowerBasic DOS Launcher automatically launches PowerBasic v3.5 in DOSBox. It does the following...

    1. Checks if DOSBox is installed in its default location.
    2. Checks if PowerBasic v3.5 is installed in, "C:\PB35".
    3. Detects your monitor resolution for best DOSBox screen setting.
    4. Launches PowerBasic without having to mount a C: drive and so forth in DOSBox.
    5. Writes a "dosbox.conf" file in the "C:\PB35" directory. Which you can edit further to your liking.

Uploaded v1.0.1. Forgot about Windows 7 and up have different "Program Files" paths for 32bit apps, depending on if it is a 32bit or 64bit OS.

      Greetings ....

Just letting you know --- with all due respect -- that downloading does not work because of malware detected by anti-virus software. Tried to do it on two separate computers, one with Avast and the other with McAfee. Both stopped the download. Please check your software.

      Thanx-A-Lot, Frank

There shouldn't be any viruses or anything like that. It's a false alarm. I'm not sure why it would be reporting that. Try downloading it from here. I've attached the zip file. PowerBasic DOS Launcher.zip

I sent the zip file to Avast and this was the reply...

            Hello,

Thank you for reporting this false positive.

Our virus specialists have now cleared its reputation in our database.

With URLs this change should be instant, but it might take up to 24 hours with files.

              Hi Joe,

does your Launcher use any DosBox-API-Calls? How do you detect DosBox's Installed location?

I still don't understand the sense of a PB-Launcher on DosBox...
After installation of DosBox I configured it one time and so it is ready to go...

Could your Launcher be useful in a Linux-System?

              Thank you for your Work
              Andy

1.) Originally when I started working on this launcher, it did use command line calls to DOSBox. Then I decided to not limit it to certain calls but use the dosbox.conf file for any settings a user may want to adjust. These adjustments only affect PowerBasic in DOSBox and not your main DOSBox config file. As long as you only edit the dosbox.conf that is created within the PowerBasic folder.
2.) DOSBox default installation location is within the Program Files folder. It's just knowing the correct path per OS version. I have it check for this.
3.) This was created to make it easy to launch PowerBasic. No need to set anything up, unless you want to change some settings in the dosbox.conf file. It's kind of like an automated shortcut icon for your desktop.
4.) It could be useful for Linux but I know longer use nor program for Linux. I did years ago but there's no big return on Linux for a developer.

I hope that answers your questions.
