HOST NAME was so named because of the API call it encapsulates (GetHostByName).

Host Name Misleading?

Yes, you are experiencing Microsoft Networking
It means your DNS server is PROBABLYy using either Wins or Netbios name resolution, find it and turn it off....
Or, change your machine name to be different than your host name, it will complain that you will be known as two different computers but will give you a different DNS entry based on the hostname and domain name...

Host Name Misleading?
Is it just that I misunderstand the HOST NAME command or am I just implementing it wrong...
It returns the Computer Name (NetBIOS Name) rather then the DNS Host Name. (I am connected to the Internet at home and have a DNS server to bounce against as well as at work with a on-site DNS server).
Also... any reason why it doesn't work under WinNT Server 4.0 (sp6) (returns nothing).Tags: None
