  • VB or DDT for UI

    Hi All

I am new to PBDLL(actually hasn't arrived yet)but have used PBCC and was wondering if DDT has the ability too construct a User Interface(for a POS System) or should I use VB(I have it already)and then code the guts in modules in PB.

    Thanks

I see no reason why you could not write the whole thing in PB. You can develop an entire GUI in DDT or use one of the RC2DDT convertion tools (Search these fourms for DDT Generator) and develop the GUI with a Dialog editor.
I used to own VB many years ago but now do most of my programming in PB\DLL and Turbo Assembler. I got tired of slow FAT code that VB produced and now I love PB and will NEVER go back to using VB.

      Dave,

      >and then code the guts in modules in PB.

That has been our approach until recently and it has worked
exceptionally well cutting processing times by roughly 500%.

We are now looking at a PB written GUI and there are several
ways to go. Scan the Third Party section and have a look
      at the links provided..

I always use my Winlog For Windows 98 as an example here..

It was a 2.1 meg download to log when the PC was booted.

In PB it does all of that, uses a ListView, encrypts the file, password protected, built in installation, 380k bitmap splash screen and the TOTAL zipped up size is now up to 90k.

I had 451 downloads of the VB version in one year, it would bog down the system loading the run time module so PC's with low ram would be out 1 meg until Windows released it (half hour later usually) and now it's LIGHTNING quick.

And now I've exceeded 15,000 downloads.
