Lance, would it be vaporware to tell us if the next IDE
will be a major update or a minor one?
technically, yes it would... it is part of a PowerBASIC product, and therefore falls under the blanket "No Vaporware" policy. Sorry!

There are a number of IDE's in development it seems (some of the folks involved in these projects are regular visitors to this BBS). I'm starting to think that PowerBASIC programmers are going to be spoiled for choice of IDE!

Chris's ideas are certainly of interest to us, as are many other 3rd-party projects.

PowerBASIC actively encourages any 3rd-party development that adds value to our compilers.

My PBWinADP can be used as just an editor with shell compile.

Lance, would it be vaporware to tell us if the next IDE
will be a major update or a minor one? I mean, how would
you compare it to say Kev's PowerIDE? In my view, a more
flexibile (and feature rich) IDE (compared to the
current PBedit.exe) is necessary and right now
PowerIDE is looking pretty cool. To what extent will
the new PB IDE be more than just a simple text editor with
    syntax coloring?

    --------------------------------------------------------------
"Also noteworthy, the next update to the IDE will enable folks
to edit files with about 32,000 lines instead of the current
16,000 line limit." - Lance Edmonds
    --------------------------------------------------------------

And Chris Boss seems to be leading the way on creating an IDE
add-in specification which is great. Will the new PB IDE
support it or will it have its own add-in spec or none at all?

I know this is probably close to rehashing the "Roadmap" threads,
but this is just the IDE i'm curious about and not any
    actual compiler features.

    Thanks,
    -Mike

Mark, you Should not use the "beta" release, especialy for "real" projects... it is a work in progress.

Instead, you should only use the latest "public release" version from http://www.powerbasic.com/files/pub/pbwin/win32api.zip

Also noteworthy, the next update to the IDE will enable folks to edit files with about 32,000 lines instead of the current 16,000 line limit.

    Mark,

    My URL is www.pbq.com.au/home/hutch/

The small editor is Quick Editor and it is a multi-instance design
that handles about 4 meg in each instance. It is written in PBDLL60
so it should be fast enough to do what you want as well. It has
block indent which is handy when working on large include files
and you can configure the menus to run most things.

Note that it is relatively austere, has no syntax colouring and never
will, (gives me eyestrain) but it has a reasonable help file to help
setting up the range of things that it will do.

    Mark;

You might want to visit Steve Hutchesson's web site.

He has a very nice "small" text editor, which I find useful for
handling very large text files (like the API INC file). I use
it a lot and it is freeware !

Does someone remember the URL to Steves web site ?

    Hello Gregery,

I have already done that but the fact remains that the editor should
be able to load large files. If not PowerBasic should concider breaking
up the "win32api.inc" file into smaller peices like other languages. I
have noticed that there are some things about PBDLL that really need
to be changed to make it more usable. This is not meant as a stab at
PowerBasic but things do need to change...

A side from my suggestion, I dont know why the line buggered up. It
said something about not allowing a pointer to a UDT passed byval?

Anyway I hope things are better in the next version... once again I
will be in line with my VISA!

try opening them in Wordpad or if you have Win2k try notepad.exe (no size limits)

or search for text editor at download.com, I'm sure they will have
    one that can open it.

Guest started a topic New WIN32API.INC problems!

    New WIN32API.INC problems!

    Hello,

I just downloaded the "beta" win32api.inc and I cant even load it
into the PowerBasic IDE. The reason I need to load it is because
when I try to compile one of my programs it bails out with...

    error 486 in win32api.inc (18989:62)
    Byval option not allowed

Maybe its time to split the include files up into smaller chunks?

I know it will be harder to maintain them but it beats the heck
out of not being able to edit them at all!
