  • Are these books worth keeping?

I ran out to the shed and found these books I've been packing around forever.

Developing Applications Using DOS by Ken W. Christopher Jr, Barry A Feigenbaum and Shon O Saliga (covers DOS 4.0)
MS-DOS Batch File Programming by Ronny Richardson (DOS 5.0)
Advanced Batch File Programming by Dan Gookin (DOS 5.0)
Commodore 64/128 Assembly Language Programming by Mark Andrews
BASIC Computer Programs for Business Volum 1 by Charles D Sternberg

Yes, they are very old and I don't know if anything in them will help me in using PB or not(considering for one reason the versions of DOS) or whether it's even worth the time to read them again(it's been lots of years since I've even opened one of them).

Anyone recognize the titles and know whether I should hang on to them or not as far as PB/DLL programming is concerned?

    Thanks,

Wow, the C64 book I had for a few years, wrote a cool app long ago....(Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong ago)...

    My opinion:

If you are like me, well, I threw those two titles out about 1994 or so, didn't need the DOS stuff since PB has such an exetensive help file in PB/Dos, and nobody uses Dos a nymore (Well, not hte majority of people)...

There's good postings in here of good books to buy for the future tho, and I'm sure they'll be obsolete in a few years too.

Hey! I have three of those books myself. I even used the
Advanced Batch File Programming last year. If you have the room
to store them do so. You never know when you might need info
on something. As for using any of those with PB...not likely.

I didn't meant to sound negative about it, just that most of what's in those is online some place or another, so check it out and if it is, then you can chuck 'em if not, maybe hold onto them.
The asm book won't do you much good on a PC (Will it?), a C64 did things different (although easier at the time hehe)...

          Thanks for the replies.

I'll put them back out in the shed.
