  • No Dialog but a timer

I'm putting pieces together and still have not found a way to do my app WITHOUT A DIALOG BOX..

I'm not sure why one is required or why one can't be made invisible FROm the start like VB can....

Basically back to point A, user cannot detect that the app is running on the machine...

    Help!

Please, I'm against a deadline on this th ing and I'm stuck here..

    Scott,

I just emailed something to you. A program that hides until a timer
event. It hides from the taskbar and taskmanager. I am sure this will be useful.

    Regards,
    Jules

Does this program hide itself from "Processes" list under NT/2000 ?
If so, I'm interesting to look also (note, I am about second tab in Task Manager)

          Code:
          Message-Only Windows
A message-only window enables you to send and receive messages. It is not visible, has no Z order,
cannot be enumerated, and does not receive broadcast messages. The window simply dispatches messages.
To create a message-only window, specify the HWND_MESSAGE constant or a handle to an existing message-only
window in the hWndParent parameter of the CreateWindowEx function. You can also change an existing window
to a message-only window by specifying HWND_MESSAGE in the hWndNewParent parameter of the SetParent function.
To find message-only windows, specify HWND_MESSAGE in the hwndParent parameter of the FindWindowEx function.
In addition, FindWindowEx searches message-only windows as well as top-level windows if both the hwndParent
          and hwndChildAfter parameters are NULL.

            Fred --
I know how to hide itself from taskbar and Alt-Tab (incl. visible dialogs).

But I want to hide Exe, which is visible in "processes" and can be canceled by user in Task Manager
            (what I want to avoid).

Jules told about RegisterServiceProcess, which works fine under 9x.
Somebody has a sample with RegisterCtrlHandler for NT/2000 ?

              Code:
              semen--

i posted code for using registerserviceprocess here:
               http://www.powerbasic.com/support/pb...ead.php?t=2984

under nt/2000, the only way to hide anything from the task manager is
to code it as a service. or bury it inside another process. the
back orifice source code is available, if you appreciate coding
              projects of that sort:
               http://www.bo2k.com/indexdownload.html

and just to clarify, the message-only window is available only under
win2000. i haven't experimented with it, but i doubt very much that
it creates a hidden process, which is what you're looking for.
