Language question/Page code

I'm not even sure how to word this correctly and it may be a future wish list item if nothing else..

Using foreign languages on an English computer requires the language setup, code page, whatever, for that language.
So I have multiple languages on my PC now and in a Rich Text box I can paste foreign language code in..(Ie Outlook or Outlook express in Rich Text or HTML format).

Very few other apps have the support for it, including PB, including my NoteTab Pro that I use (Funny that their free version does however)...


So if nothing else can I put a request in to choose the code page I wish to use?

Lets say I want to make a foreign language resource script using PB, I would want to change to the code page of that language...whether geman, Cyrillic or whatnot...


Have I confused anybody yet?

Hi Scott,

Its really hard to run and test multiple different languages on
a single Windows OS. I use VMware's Virtual Machine software.
Using windows 2000 as my root machine, I create a separate VM
for each language version of Windows. This allows me to
properly test on a single PC. Of course, each VM can be
0.5 GB or more so you do need a lot of disk - but that’s
cheap now.

What Tony says is right, If you are just adding languages in Win2k this is not the same as using the actual OS.

For example, English Win2k supports Japanese through Unicode but Win98J uses SJIS (Code page 921 I think) Win2k will not view s-JIS properly except in email and IE however Win98 will read the Japanese portion of the Unicode set. I suspect that the Unicode is translated to normal DBCS in the case of 98.

I stick to Unicode myself as I rarely need to support non NT/2K systems but I have been doing some experiments with s-jis on a win98j system and having some success, DDT tends to hiccup from time to time but SDK seems ok. I am compiling these apps on the japanese version too but I am yet to see if this has an effect. I'll let you know if I discover any major DOs and DON'Ts and I would like to hear any you come across too

So even if I compile a resource file with foreign menu's on MY system (Win98) it will not run on a foreign system or even another english version and show that actual language in the menu?
It's just strings from teh resource that are being modified...hmmmm

I think the Resource file will solve a lot of the problems because it avoids strings having to go though the PB IDE. (Unless PB is doing something funny with their PBR file, I don't know what differences there are between that and a normal RES file. not much I hope)
