Antivirus and the Registry

Does anyone know the mechanisim by which a program is installed as an antivirus program in WinXP? I would like to programmaticaly tell windows that a given program is a virus scanner but I'm not sure how to go about it.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure if I understand what you're asking for.

I understand it that you are searching for a way to integrate your program with the Windows security API so that Windows (for example the Windows Security Center) does recognize your app as an installed AV software.
