If 'information' means the description of each message, it's not hard to find at all. It may, however, be hard to find the information in the format in which you want it..

Then again, reformatting information into a new format qualifies the work for copyright protection. This is a 'major' issue among those of us who work extensively with the ANSI ASC X12 standards. You can find the info you need Ok, but trying to format that information into a "usable by an application program" format (e.g,, fixed field or delimited files) and actually incorporating said info into a redistributed application is like begging for an appointment with both ANSI and DISA's lawyers.

Thanks for the warning. I did wonder about that. Even so, I'm thinking thoughts about the owner of the copyright, which should also remain unpublished.

Reformatting for your own use is no problem (assuming you have a licensed copy of whatever it is), it's redistributing that is the problem.

I have one right now I'm working on, where I busted my butt to extract info from a PDF file, and did extensive manual editing of what I retrieved. (But WAY less work than retyping, and simply retyping of course puts us in a murky area).

I am bundling together a suite of separate applications for a VERY niche market (best estimate 200 total market nationwide). The first two applications have no copyright issues at all; but this third application - which would be a perfect fit with the other two and make the 'package' that much more attractive - is the one which has me worried. (My lawyer is smaller than their lawyer.).

In which case you need to know their lawyer's opinion, which should cost you less than yours!

Thanks for pointing those out, the problem is they have very few descriptions, which is the hard part to find.
