  • MS Silverlight messes with copy and paste

Just a minute ago I relented and installed Silverlight from Microsoft. Now I can't properly copy code examples from the forum and paste them into anything including PB, JellyFish, MSWord.

I've been pasting examples from the forum for years now and this is the only thing I can see that caused the problem.

I'm guessing I should just uninstall Silverlight, right?

I've uninstalled MS Silverlight and now this is what happens

    1. Jellyfish and Ultraedit - a single string of characters with chr$(10) and chr$(13) removed
    2. MS Word - Code appears in a box instead of straight text like it used to
    3. NotedPad- Still works fine
    4. Wordpad - doesn't work. Just word wraps
    5. PB 7.04 - Now it seems to work okay.

I logged in from my other desktop computer which did not have Silverlight installed and all the above worked as they used to, plain text which could be copied and pasted

Just thought I'd pass it along. I'm using IE 7

See Adam Drake's "Clipboard Listener" application in the source code forum.

I use with IE6, works terrific.

Not that this deals with the damage (?) caused by "Silverlight" but it absolutely deals with the stated requirement to copy source code from the forum.

        registry restoration

Did a restore of a previous registry version make no difference?

I just uninstalled and didn't change the registry settings. Do you know what branch I should look for. MS SilverLight? or are more affected.

I'll also look at the clipboard listener.

            Oops, shouldn't have done that.

Not a clue. Haven't even looked at the program. Just standard policy after getting burned is to do a registry setpoint before installing ANYTHING!

            regards, Ian

OK, just did a quick search on silverlight and got this:

              remove the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{283C8576-0726-4DBC-9609-3F855162009A}.

              best of luck,

FWIW, I have been experiencing much of the same without Silverlight. This started shortly after E.I. 7 and other MS automatic security updates were installed. I am running XP Pro SP2 and all of the MS patches to date.
