Text file security?

I am the Administrator and only user of a computer,
and one of my programs has a password to run it. If I
am logged in to computer but not the program with
password, what is there to stop someone else(I let
use after logging in)from accessing text files in
my programs directory? Can text file be compressed, so
that it is not readable by someone using my computer?

Nothing and yes.

Your only option is to store the data as something other than text. An encrypted database or custom encrypted file sounds like it would fit the bill. Search the forum for "encryption" or "encrypt file"

Nothing. In fact, the user could copy the files to USB or email the files.

I think you mean encryption not compression.

Another option is Truecrypt. Install the application you don't want other users using on encrypted volume (and don't mount the encrypted volume).
Truecrypt will soon be releasing 5.0 (Feb 4) http://www.truecrypt.org/future.php which contains Windows System partition encryption.
