    Yet another Visual Design Tool?

    Hi Everybody,

I am trying to gauge how much support I would have for a
product I have been developing with for the last few weeks.

I am writing a visual design environment that is a clone of
the Visual Basic 6 environment. I have the toolbox, project
explorer and property windows already complete. As well I have
the drawing of controls, moving controls and resize handles
done. The internal guts is not touched yet. Note: the project
is being written in Visual Basic

I would like to ask how many ex-VB programmers out there would
like a product like this and would be willing to evaluate it
over the course of its development. It *may* eventually end up
being a retail offering but all the alpha and betas will be
    free.

The generated code will be DDT and if there is enough demand
maybe SDK (although I would definately need help in that area).

The backend code will use most of the elements from the
    JellyFish Editor.

I would also like to explore the possibility of being able to
integrate custom controls directly into the toolbox - from
reading posts in this Forum I see that various people have
custom controls available and may be willing to adapt them
    to a project like this.

It may never rival the functionality of EZGUI but you never
    know - never say never.

Please give me either a thumbs up or thumbs down

    Paul;

    Sounds Interesting !

I am sure the next generation of RAD tools for PB will make
    PB programmers more productive.

I never had a problem to pay for something that's usefull to me. We all need to make our living.

            Paul, count me in!!

Edwin, that trial demo of your IDE looks brilliant - very VB6-like (and I love VB's IDE!)
Id happily pay for a fully-functional program like that Edwin, pity that it'll take you until 2090 to finish it - that's why I'm in favour of PB IDEs created in VB as they can be developed a hell of a lot faster - in Pauls case, just a few weeks

            Best,
            Wayne

What happened to Daniel Modler? He had a promising IDE going. Did he bail because of the debugger issue? He's like ... gone!

                  From one Paul to another..

                  I'm in!

I'm always willing to try these things out. DDT is nice but sometimes unicode support is needed, don't suppose you feel like tacking a wee bit in that direction?

I would like to see an independent module approach.
I would prefer dll's but as Paul is writing this in VB I believe COM objects would
fit the bill. My VB is a bit rusty but I think these would be ActiveX exe's???

                    The three modules would be.

                    1. Visual Designer
                    2. Code Generator
                    3. Editor

                    Comments??

                      Ahhh.... the motivation I need!

Thanks a lot everyone. I'll try to find some diehard time to
pour into the code. I'm trying to make the code as object
oriented as possible and to use as few ActiveX controls as
possible. Being a VB program you can be sure it will end up
in the 5 or 6 meg range - but if it gets the job done then
                      that's all that matters!

BTW, Edwin I downloaded your vd.exe - very nice! Too bad it
won't be ready until 2090 you would have at least one customer
in me. However, I don't think I would name the EXE after
                      a disease

I plan to codename this project PowerGUI. Does anybody have a
problem with that? Am I taking a name already being used by
someone? Sound too close to Kev's PowerIDE? Maybe I should
                      call it JellyGUI

I'll post a download link in this Forum (actually, the Third
Party Tools Forum) when the code progresses to a reasonable
                      stage.

                      Thanks,
