Chris - yes, but the Windows XP being delivered this year is for the 32-bit x86 archetecture. The 64-bit version, targeted to IA-64 chips like the long-delayed Itanium, won't be coming out until sometime in 2002, last I heard (unless Micro$oft has changed gears very recently.)
Given the many issues involved in migration to the 64-bit hardware, though, I wouldn't expect the 32-bit world to disappear for a long, long time... I know I certainly have no plans to go 64-bit anytime soon, and I doubt the embedded-systems world in general will exactly embrace IA-64 anytime soon; frankly, any engineer who would try to stuff an XP-running Itanium into a Lawn Bird sprinkler controller should be shot.
