  • Question About PBWin9, Before I Buy

Do the new COM capabilities permit the programmer to natively ('intrinsically') create a shell ContextMenuHandler COM library? If the answer is 'yes', I will purchase PBWin9 today. If the answer is 'no', I might not purchase it until December.

I want this capability so I create Windows Explorer File Menu extensions COM libraries. If the answer is 'no', I will begin the process of doing the research/test coding to see if I can come up with the capability myself. I am already able to create COM libraries with PBWin8xx, so...

Thanks much for any replies, the sooner the better.

    Hi Clay,

Maybe better to ask Support directly but from what I understand is that it *would* be possible but you'll have to implement the QueryContextMenu method etc yourself and register the menu in the registry manually.

This being said, I stress the fact that 'I'm not really sure' so better ask support directly.

    have a great day !

    Cheers
    Steven

Thanks for the reply, Steven. To be blunt, I am hoping that a PB administrator will jump in. However, I asked the question here rather than e-mailing support because I figured it might be a question that others would be interested in the answer for.

      Thanks again for your reply.

        Steven,

I guess my question has changed, and since you were kind enough to answer my first one, I'll direct this one to you.

Given what you know now about PBWin 9, are you confident that I could create a ContextMenuHandler COM library with it, if I *do* take care of creating the applicable methods myself? If you answer 'yes', then I will immediately proceed to ordering PBWin9.

        Thanks for any reply.

Disregard my questions in this thread, I have decided to go ahead and purchase PBWin9 right now. The new forward referencing is reason enough to do so.

Good move, Clay. PBWin 9.0 has too many nice new toys to be ignored.

              Hi Clay,

Sorry for the delay. You probably have the PBWin 9 now and are eagerly looking into all the nice new features. Well, I surely believe that PB 9 will be able to assist in what you're trying to accomplish. Further, I also think that the upgrade is worth it even if it would not be possible what you're aiming at (which I doubt !!)

              Cheers
