  • rc.hlp file

A file called rc.hlp is mentioned in the PB/Win 9 help file but I cannot locate the file anywhere on my PC. I've also check the PB web site download page and searched the forums - no luck.

I'm guessing it's not a PB generated file, but since it was referenced (without a source identified) I expected to see a copy in the PB/Win install folder.

I can see several references to such a file using Google, but don't know if the one referenced in the PB Help file is the same.

    Can anyone shed some light?

    Thanks
    Gary

It is no longer available because Windows Vista doesn't support .hlp files. But its contents are available in the Microsoft site: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...42(VS.85).aspx

Your attachment was removed because you do not have permission to re-distribute this Microsoft Help file. Please do not post copyrighted material. Thank you.

The RC.HLP file is located in your \bin directory and a shortcut to the RC help file on MSDN was created in the PowerBASIC program group.

          Sorry,

just wanted to help! In fact mine posted here was from Hutch´s masm package freely downloadable for everyone. So i thought i would be ok.

Hutch has permission from MS to distribute RC.hlp as does PowerBASIC, Inc. I did not think it was on purpose, just wanted to keep the forums clear of any copyright violations.

Hi Steve and thanks for the response.

I now see the program group link you describe and it takes me to the online MSDN Help for the resource compiler. I'll look it over in more detail.

But, there's no such file as rc.hlp in the \bin folder - just rc.exe and rcdll.dll. I searched my entire hard drive and got the same result, no rc.hlp.

Anyway, I'll use the online Help information. That will take care of my need.

Thanks again for such a quick response,
              Gary

                Hello Jose,

Thank you, too, for your response. The link takes me to the same place as the installed link in the PowerBASIC program group that Steve brought to my attention. After searching my entire hard drive and not finding the rc.hlp file, I didn't look any further. I didn't realize the rc.hlp info was important enough to warrant a spot in the program group. Now I know.

                Best wishes,
                Gary

                  Gary,
RC.HLP was included with the compiler up to PBCC4.0 and PBWin7 (and PBWin8? I don't have 8 to check) but is not included with the latest release of the compilers.

                  Paul.

The dialog editor itself (that to which the help refers) is no longer shipped/installed with the compilers.
