Is ZLib.dll compatible with Japanese/Chinese OS? (ie. unicode)

Is ZLib compatible with Japanese/Chinese OS? my ZLib routines appear to be failing on the aforementioned operating systems (and only those systems), so im wondering if its a unicode issue? Does anyone know? or could somebody in Japan (Paul?) verify this please?
    Many thanks in advance

It would probably be easiest to find out from the zlib site: http://www.gzip.org/zlib/
The C source code is available there, also. Considering that it's available
for a wide variety of systems, odds are that it expects a standard 8-bit
ASCII-flavored character set. How much of a hassle this would be to change,
    who knows...

      Wayne,
You also might want to look at the Winamp guys NSIS installer,
Its freeware, comes with source and uses ZLIB.
      Just a thought.
