  • Upgrade problem with 9.01

    Hi everyone,

I'm using PB 9.0 on Vista and trying to upgrade to 9.01. Well, I downloaded the 330 byte executable (twice now) and run it. I get a DOS window and nothing prints in it. It runs seemingly forever and in the task manager there is a process that is spawned called NTVDM.EXE which hovers between 49 and 50 percent of the CPU. I left it running last night and this morning it finally disappeared with nothing changed in the PB directory.

I've run it with "Run as Administrator" and a normal double click and no changes.

Does anyone have any ideas what to do?

    Thanks,

    Randal

First- the size of the file I downloaded was 4.1 MB
Second-Installed without a hitch on Vista Home Premium.

When downloading, make sure you do not use a download accelerator, e.g.FlashGot, like in many Firefox systems. I switch to an IE tab and download, bypassing FlashGot. Ending up with a small file sounds to me like what I have seen sometimes happen when trying to download from sites which do not "like" accelerators.

Try dropping the file into notepad maybe and see what the heck it contains?
Furcadia, an interesting online MMORPG in which you can create and program your own content.

It's a little late I suppose but I wanted to thank you Richard. That solved the problem. I'm just now getting around to using it as work has had me up in the evenings lately and PB is for fun for me so it got put aside until today again.
