The announcement just posted says that all registered owners
will receive the upgrade free? The new IDE / debugger / Help too?
Sorry to ask but when something seems a little to good to be true,
    it usually isn't true.

Also, I see there is a Powertree 1.1. I have 1.0 (plus a fix by
Lance) but have never seen an upgrade to 1.1. Is there a list
of what changed from 1.0 to 1.1? Is there an upgrade price from
    1.0 to 1.1?

    Thanks .. Mike

It is exactly what it says! The update includes those items - PowerBASIC aims to please!

I'm not sure whether there is a charge for the 1.1 edition of PowerTREE if you are a registered 1.0 owner.

Best you contact mailto:[email protected][email protected]</A> for a precise answer, and be sure to include your serial number with your query.

    Thanks!

      Mike --

      > all registered owners will receive the upgrade free? [italics added]

Just so there's no misunderstanding... There's a difference between an upgrade and an update.

An update usually involves bug fixes, and (often) enhancements and new features, along with a change in the minor version number, the part after the dot. An upgrade involves a new major version number, and major new features and capabilities.

If I understand what PowerBASIC has said, the upcoming update will be free. No upgrade has been announced.

        Mr. Burns...

You certainly have an interesting perspective towards our company. So, since you seem to believe we're engaged in some deception here, I'm prepared to accomodate you. {smile} Tell me, how much do you wish to pay us for these free updates? Please be sure to pick a number which makes you comfortable, and we'll charge you accordingly.

        Regards,

        Bob Zale

and Powerbasic ... thanks for the offer to allow me to pay but

I read that news letter too, but I believed every word it said.
The door didn't hit me in the rear when I went out to mail a
check to PB this afternoon. 10 days can come pretty quick.

We're in the final stages of testing update versions of both PB/CC and PB/DLL. A new IDE. A new debugger. A bigger and better help file. Bug fixes. More. All totally free to every registered owner, including you, just as soon as testing is complete. Watch for the announcement at www.powerbasic.com -- You'll download free updates of either Win32 compiler by completing a short online order form!
So, yes, if you have registered your purchase of PB/CC 2 and/or PB/DLL 6 with PowerBASIC, Inc. (or if you purchased direct from PowerBASIC, Inc.) then you will qualify for a free update to each one that you purchased as soon as they become available.

The excellent angle to this announcement is the time-limited crossgrade option too - you can purchase a crossgrade for just the usual upgrade price.

It is very rare for PowerBASIC, Inc. to offer crossgrade deals, especially between PB/CC and PB/DLL, but for a limited time it is extended to PB/DOS owners too!

I find this a good offer + nice of the free updates.
Wonders me, how will PB survive free updates, is there a major release planned?

                    Lance, Tom,

                    I am a licensed user of PB/DLL 6.0 & PB/DOS 3.5 & QPP 1.30.

My question is: would I be able to purchase one (or more) of the
compilers for a friend at the sale prices? Or, would he (or I)
have to purchase them at the full price, since he's not a
                    user of them, yet?

                    Thanks in advance!

Oh, one more question: would there be any advantage to my upgrading
my QPP 1.30 to the latest version?

                    Regards,

You are welcome to buy an additional copy of any product at these prices. That doesn't pose a problem, as long as it's within the time frame.

I believe that QuickPak 1.3 is the current version.

                      Thanks!

                        Bob,

                        Thanks for your prompt reply!

I *should* have some additional money coming in, later today. If
I do receive it (I'm on a fixed income, but, my friend lost his job,
so he has NO income at this time, and he REALLY wants to start
programming, after I've told him how GREAT the PB softwares are )
, then I'll be sending out the reg fees at the sales prices this afternoon.

But, one note - I thought the latest version of QPP was 1.32? I'll
go check your Products subsite after posting this reply, to be sure.
If I'm correct, I'll call PB's offices this AM and ask about the
advantages to upgrading my v. 1.30.

                        Thanks, again!

The latest versions of each product may be found on the Support page:
                          http://www.powerbasic.com/support/

If you have a product that is not quite up-to-date... say,
                          version 1.30 of QuickPak, or PB/DOS 3.5 dated 14 Dec. 1997... you
may qualify for a free download of the latest version. Send your
request to mailto:[email protected][email protected]</A> along with your serial number.

The e-mail I received says that we have 10 days to “crossgrade” several times, but then states “The CrossGrade pricing described here begins October 10, 2001 and ends October 24, 2001, not before or after.” That is 14 days where I come from. Did I miss something?
