  • Generating PDF files

To produce the code for a computer programme one needs to know the "language".
To produce the code for a Postscript file one needs to know the PostScript "language".
I would like to look at producing PDF files but I don't know where to get the "language".
    Can anyone help.
    Brian Reynolds.

    Brian,

Search the PB forums for MAKEPDF. It's a utility that some kind soul
made. I think you can find it on www.lexicorp.com.pg. It's a front
end for a freeware package that conferts postscript files to pdf.
He made it a snap to use.

"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers

      Brian,

A couple of shareware you might look at are:-
      http://www.fineprint.com http://www.broadgun.com

      I find both are great.

At work, however, we use VB6 and Crystal reports developer addition 8.5
which provides conversion to PDF and other formats.

      Regards,

      David

Adobe writes a Language Reference Manual.
Mines a little old published by Addison Wesley ISBN 0-201-18127-4
The language uses similar techniques to Forth so it helps if you ever programmed in that

Adobe also provides a free (19.9MB zip) SDK download with
          full details on the format.

          URL to SDK: http://partners.adobe.com/asn/developer/acrosdk/

            That's http://www.lexacorp.com.pg

But note that MakePDF is just a front end to automate the use of AFPL Ghostscript which converts Postscript files to PDF.
