  • Mouse pointer and caret in PbEditor

RBG 126,115,95 (camouflage) is easy on the eyes.
Is there any way to change the caret or mouse pointer in the PBEditor?
The caret and mouse pointer are hard to find. Can't fnd anything in help or PbWin.ini.

Looked in mouse settings, but settings seem to affect just Windows. Using Windows 11.
Trying to tone down looking at a white screen which is kinda like staring at a light bulb on a large monitor.
Noticed the PowerBASIC screens are not all bright white. Might try to match the colors.
The background of this text is easier on the eyes. Not sure how to capture the colors.
    Also, playing with f.lux.

Currently there aren't any customization options - the code is currently set to make it MOUSEPTR 3 - and either use a 2 pixel wide Caret if in "insert" mode, and a character wide caret if in "overstrike" mode.

I can certainly evaluate what it would take to add some customization options - what type of options do you think might make sense / be helpful?

The caret and mouse pointer being a "|" might be easier to see if bigger or a different color.
It is very hard to see when everything is set to RBG 126,115,95. Easy to see as I type this.
I suppose my color combination could be modified until the caret is easy to see.

I will certainly look at those things, but just did a bit of digging on options available in Windows 11 - If you go to Settings -> Accessibility -> Mouse pointer and touch...If you don't mind these settings changing globally for your entire system - you can make the cursor a bit larger and change the color here, along with a couple of different styling options. I did not know these were available until I started researching how to change them programmatically in the IDE. Some of these options make the cursor much more visible over the color mentioned above.

I'll try in there and get back. Should have put more effort into it. Appreciate it!

Kinda like the bigger mouse pointer that works, but the caret stays the same size and color in the editor.
Get the same results in notepad so I guess it is normal for the caret not to change.
My mouse pointer size was 1, so 2 or larger definitely stands out. Finding the caret is still the problem.

Problem solved. There are text cursor options and changed there!!
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

              Update:
The text cursor size and color work in this forum and notepad, but not in the PbEditor
Will try in my programs and see how it looks.

It looks like the IDE overrides the system caret, and creates its own - which is why that's happening. I'm going to dig into that and see what I can come up with.

They are definitely in WIn10 as well and IIRC, you can change the size and use different schemes in WIndows 7,
I've been using customized pointers on my laptop for ages on account of my old tired eyes!.
Size = 2, whilte with black border, I especially like what it does to the "I-Beam" when over text

Changed text cursor thickness to 20 in Windows 10 and it works while typing in notepad, but no effect to cursor thickness in pbedit (10.04.0108)
No effect to cursor thickness while using pbedit in Windows 10 or Windows 11.

Modified above to say thickness not size.

It looks as though the custom thickness mainly works with MS applications (Notepad, Word etc) The change doesn't apply to Notepad++ or Firefox, for example.

Thanks for keeping me honest. I meant to say cursor thickness, not size. The mouse pointer does change size in pbedit.
Just increased pointer size to 2 (that is a nice modification.)

                          Oh, BTW
                          "mouse pointer.. hard to find"

Are you familiar with this Settings - Mouse - Additional mouse options (aka Control Panel - Mouse) - Pointer Options setting?

Just found it and changed it. I see how that could be useful.
I only change a few standard settings like single-click when clicking.

Can't wait until later today to test a 65-inch Hisense TV with its programming mode.
The price was mismarked on Amazon and they sold it to me anyway for reporting the wrong lower price.
