  • Using Transparent Child Dialogs for Layers of controls !

    The code below demonstrates using a transparent child Dialog as a holder for controls. By using this technique with multiple child dialogs you can easily create "Layers" of controls that can be shown and hidden easily for such things as Tab controls using DDT.

    Code:
    $COMPILE EXE
    $DIM ALL ' This is helpful to prevent errors in coding

    $INCLUDE "win32api.inc"        ' The Windows API include file !

    Chris --
    Nice code, but I have a question about styles
    ExStyle& = %WS_EX_TRANSPARENT - like i understand, has no effect
    In additional, I can't understand what means
    %WS_CHILD Or %DS_CONTROL in
    Style& = %WS_CHILD Or %WS_CLIPCHILDREN Or %WS_CLIPSIBLINGS Or %DS_CONTROL
    I dont see difference between %WS_CHILD Or %DS_CONTROL and separate %WS_CHILD.
    Which effect to wait from %DS_CONTROL ?

      Semen;

      %WS_EX_TRANSPARENT is an "extended" style which tells Windows to make the background of the Dialog transparent (which is needed for Layering).

      %DS_CONTROL tell windows to treat the child dialog like a control, rather than a normal window, so the TABing is handled correctly. Without it, TABing to controls on the Layer, likely wouldn't work right.

      If anybody has more questions about the use of Transparent Dialogs for Layering, please create a thread in the "Programming" forum, rather than here.
