Well this is BUILT with Powerbasic and if your website should ever go down you could use this to inform your customers it's down - it's a simple web server that sends 1 page or 1 picture depending on the request.

In that manner it would enhance your PB products - ?

Could I have you guys check it ouit and give some constructive feedback?

Thanks to everyone for helping wiht this as well - this program has not seen teh shareware market in 11 years.

ALSO NOTE - This uses my (finally repaired) CCSREG dll - I'll tell you in a PM where it puts the "install date" so you can delete that file

Ah, I don't get it. How can I use the web to tell people the web site is not working? Kinda like reaching for the light switch after the power outage....."oh yea, that don't work "

I guess, the idea is to temporarily change your DNS record to the machine running BBSDown.

Or perhaps just your main webserver (software, not hardware) has a problem. Than just start up BBSDown and tell folks you're down for maintenance.

It appears you would run it instead of whatever main website you would run. It replaces the Web server (software) while it is down.

Example, you are doing a main site upgrade or doing patches on your server software. Run this simple self contained little ditty and it allows you to have a presence while you doing the upgrades.

Kinda useful for self-hosters but I think professionally hosted people would just point to a landing page temporarily.

Exactly - Except if you've ever seen an intense Dot-Net heavy application and you change anything in the roiot configuration it tends to spiral downward and affect the other virtual directories - that can get ugly real quick - so we just shut off the webserver for a few hours while they did code updates etc...

This lil app would have worked wel there but it was last modified in PB For Dos - that's how long ago I had it...(For dial up BBS's, DNS with the internet has a slight difference.....

And yes you could just change internal dns to point to another server if you had a hardware crash etc...

Still beats "Cannot find server or DNS error" if you are a website that generates revenue from search engines....I will never go back to a site that doesn't open the first time....
