  • Computer Workshop invites you to our new online forums

The Computer Workshop has started a totally new online forum.
It is totally new software too!

I haven't ported my old forums over yet, since the new forums will not be exclusively for EZGUI and I haven't found the right software to do the porting yet. I may manually port over key discussions that may be of value to EZGUI users though. I will still maintain the old forums for EZGUI users, but new questions should be posted on the new forums.

What will be different though is that the forums are not exclusive to EZGUI and Computer Workshop software.

There are sections for discussing PowerBasic (DDT and SDK) and the Windows API.

Also I should note that for the timing being, I personally will try to answer all your PB, DDT, API questions on my forums and you don't have to be a customer to get the help. While I can't guarantee to answer every single question, I will try to answer as many as possible.

If you are new to Powerbasic please feel free to join my new forums.

I do think my experience in developing EZGUI which is an extensive GUI engine qualifies me to answer many API questions.

I should also note that I will be moderating my forums and will prevent discussions from deteriating into things like arguments over programming styles (ie. SDK vs DDT) and the such. I want the forums to become a wealth of programming knowledge about PowerBasic, DDT and the API.

I hope this new forum will be a valuable adjunct to the PB forums.

I just finished posting 19 source code posts on the new form.

There is some really good code in this forum now.

Especially you DDT users, will appreciate this code.

I plan on putting a lot of support into these forums, including teach all sorts of API tricks.

There are some very interesting code examples there so check them out.

A few of my favorites in the bunch are:

      - LCD Monitor PixFix
      - Threaded Custom Control
      - Notepad appears Embeded in DDT Dialog
      - my MDI (Multiple Document Interface) using DDT experiment
      - Rubberbanding example
      - LineDDA example
      - Easy ToolTip Library code

I just added a number of Tutorials about the Windows API.

The tutorials are written in a simple easy to understand style and should be easy enough for new PB'ers to grasp.

Rather than cater to the super PB'ers (very advanced), these forums will cator to the average PB user. There should be a lot you can glean from the forums.

Here are the following 101 Tutorials I have posted (gleaned from my postings over the years on the PB forum) all in one place:

        - Writing Custom Controls 101
        - Drawing in WIndows 101
        - Subclassing 101
        - Device Contexts (DC's) 101
        - Window Class Styles 101
        - Windows 101

Hopefully I will be able add more new ones as time goes on.
If you have a request for a "101" Tutorial on some Windows subject, feel free to send me an email and I'll see what I can do.

A new custom control in source code forum

I added the code for another custom control in the source code forum.

Its a simple, but useful control.

Its called a Caption control, which allows you to put a caption Bar above any other control and it will respond to mouse clicks and change its state.

A screenshot is attached to this post.

You may have noticed that I deleted some Polls from the PB forums.

To be fair to EZGUI I need to have such polls in a context where I can get the details I need from them to gain valuable feedback so I can improve EZGUI and better my tech support.

For the benefit of those who have purchased EZGUI 4.0 Pro but were not fully statisfied with it (or simply never learned how to use it) I have posted a poll just for you (and any EZGUI users).

Feel free to not only answer the Poll (survey) but post explanations of your responses if need be.

You can find the poll here on my new forums:

If you are not an EZGUI user, don't not reply to this poll. It is only for EZGUI users.

Based on the responses I may add some tutorials on my forums to help such users overcome their hurdles in using EZGUI.

Please register on the forums before posting. If you have not already registered yet you can do so here:

              DDT Tutorials and Source code

I have noticed a good number of visitors to the DDT Tutorials and Source code forums on my new forums.

If you have a request of any subject (for tutorials) or any code example (source code) you would like to see posted in these two forums, feel free to make your requests here.

I'll try to add as many of your requests as I possibly can so as to make the new forums a worthwhile place to visit for info about using PowerBasic, DDT and the API.

My experience is most with the GUI stuff (dialogs/windows/controls) so keep your request in those areas.

I noticed a lot of interest in the custom control posts.

              Have any suggestions ?
