Is there a way to encrypt (ssl) from PB via SQL_Tools to the SQL Server? Or is that already happening?

  • #2
I'm pretty sure that depends on the target database engine/ODBC driver. If that doesn't provide any kind of builtin encryption, you're out of luck and need to funnel the data flow thru something encrypted that you've build yourself (e.g. SSH tunnel). So if the ODBC driver provides that option and SQL Tools has a way to configure that property - it seems possible.

    See https://security.stackexchange.com/q...tion-encrypted

That said, MS SQL Server seems to over encryption out of the box: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/pre...067(v=sql.105)

I have no personal experience with this, but some quick Googling seems to indicate that it's not "already happening". Lots of articles about how to enable it, for example https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...er-by-using-mi

SQL Tools supports virtually 100% of the current ODBC spec, so it won't stand in your way.

So does that mean ODBC to SQL Server is sent in clear text? Got to WireShark that!
