File Submissions

Although this may not be the correct place to ask this question, it looks like it is a generic category so here goes:

When submitting code for the archive, are there certain rules to follow? For example, do you want just source code, executables, or both? If just source code, do you want it in, for example, ZIP form or plain text?

Do you want the submitter to determine which category the submission belongs or does the PB staff determine that?

Generally speaking if you've got code you want to put up then it should go into the "source code" forum unless it's for DOS. Usually, when I put code up I include test code along with it.

You can use the source code forum if that's appropriate...

We encourage everyone to submit all possible code for the PowerBASIC DOWNLOAD section. This is most desirable! Source is wonderful. EXE's are ok. ZIP everything, please. Include a short 50-100 word description. Tell us what section is appropriate? Include a statement of redistribution (it's freeware, shareware, public domain...) Send it to [email protected]

What's New

Just a suggestion. How about a link on the downloads page to highlight what is new, or a history of when files were added over the past 12 months?

A big problem I've seen in the download section is locating a specific file or a file with a specific function.

For example, a few weeks ago, I needed a date algorithm that I knew existed in the download section someplace, but where? Windows? Misc? Was it in assembler?

I'm sure it takes some work to index these, but it would be really --really-- helpful if there was some sort of search function. Most download sites have a requirement that submissions follow some sort of fixed description format. It contains all the relevant information including keywords (picked by the person uploading I presume). While not perfect, at least this information could be indexed easily enough and put into a search function.
